Participation in the Urbanism Forum on Rooting Professional Practice in Saudi Architecture

Within a rapidly evolving urban context, the Urbanism Forum served as a professional platform for dialogue on city-related issues, bringing together academics and practitioners to present perspectives connected to the future of architecture and its role in shaping the urban landscape.

The discussions addressed key questions surrounding the role of knowledge and research in architectural practice, and the importance of grounding architecture in a conscious approach that responds to the nature of place and its changing conditions. This dialogue highlighted a shared understanding of architecture as a cumulative process, shaped through continuous interaction with the specific characteristics of its context.

When addressing rooting as a professional practice, Ali Mohammed Al-Shaibi, Co-Founder and Chairman of Beeah, placed the concept within its broader framework, noting that:

“The significance of Saudi architecture lies not only in its form, but in its role in shaping the local urban environment, reinforcing identity, and linking architectural practice to its cultural and spatial context.”

Beeah’s participation as architects, planners, and engineers comes as a continuation of a professional journey shaped by decades of practice, where ideas are tested in real environments and architectural value is measured by the ability to deliver solutions that bring together sustainability and authenticity.

Approval of the Urban Landscape Code for the City of Jeddah

The Jeddah Municipality approved the Architectural and Urban Landscape Code for the City of Jeddah, after completing its preparation, to serve as one of the regulatory references adopted for the urban landscape.

The code sets clear controls for façade design, building massing, and the organization of the relationship between buildings and the public realm.

The requirements include site coordination elements, pedestrian movement, and road and parking networks, while taking into consideration the climatic and coastal characteristics of the City of Jeddah.

The code covers multiple levels of regulatory treatments at the building, street, and public space levels, with variations in building uses and diversity in development patterns.

It also enhances control over visual identity and architectural balance, reducing visual disparity and achieving coherence between existing and future projects.

This project comes as part of Beeah’s efforts to develop applied regulatory frameworks, within the context of joint efforts to regulate and develop the urban landscape of the City of Jeddah.
